I decided to post early today, so that later I can work on different things. I woke up very late again, a pattern for the week, but didn’t have much planned so that’s okay.
I’ve spent time lately putting my first draft of MW #1 into a format for publishing–not because I refuse to edit, but because a few companies are offering free printed copies through NaNoWriMo, and paying the shipping on those is actually cheaper than printing out my draft for a first edit.
Making up a just-to-get-my-copy book cover, and formatting my font–all those little steps were really fun. Irrelevant, but surprisingly fun. I’m terrified of editing, cuz again, learning by doing is not my favorite thing, but I know that all I have to do is finish my current draft, and I can get started. It thus keeps intruding on my present, rather than staying in the future where it belongs.
I don’t reread my drafts after I write them. I give them time, because I’m just too close, and then I save them to be reread when I’m ready to edit. The first two I did have to search for relevant parts when I wrote new drafts that came before or after, but after 6 and 2 months away, I really don’t remember them. So as much work as they need, I will be surprised by the parts I like, and I’m looking forward to that a lot.
Of course, spending too much time treating my finished draft like a novel or planning how to edit leaves me not doing my actual writing, so I need to rein my dreaming in a bit. Ah, back to the work of working.
Thirty Days of Noveling 
I used to be like that too. Mostly because after spending so much time in one’s mind/world I would feel like I didn’t need to go back and reread. I have since learned that is not the case. I just wasn’t giving myself MORE time away from the project. I feel like with some of my projects I’ve had to let them marinate.
